Bishop and Inyo National Park

Friday April 26th, 2019

We decided to stay in Bishop because we wanted to break up our drive north. It turns out that this is really somewhere we will want to make a destination. The Fly Fishing Stores, and Sporting Stores were bustling because Saturday is opening day of Trout season. The RV park was full and apparently it is “Fishmas” in Bishop. One Fish and Fly shop had chili dogs cooking outside and bales of hay to eat on. It gave the fisherman something to do until there was room in the store for one more customer. Seriously PACKED with fisher-people. JP heard there was great bass fishing lakes nearby but we are on a short stay so he’ll have to wait until we come back this way.

We took a drive up to the Inyo National Park. Its so beautiful there with the warm weather and sunshine. The landscape is high desert surrounded by the amazing snow capped Sierra Nevada mountains.

Inyo National

There’s camping and hiking all around this area. We stopped at Sabrina Lake, but it’s still mostly frozen over.

Later that evening we made a visit to the Paiute Palace Casino. We had a good time but didn’t overstay – after all our next stop is RENO.

Travel Day

April 25th, 2019

The drive was long and the scenery was – well. . .  not much to talk about. We headed to Bishop CA,  not so much as a destination as the first leg of our trip north toward Oregon.

Goodbye So Long . . .

Wednesday April 24th, 2019

The time with the kids flew by! It was a great visit though and the very best thing about being retired is that we are able to see them more often.  We’re looking forward to our Pomeroy Palooza in Palm Springs again in Oct. We left the big city fat and happy and headed north.

Marys

The drive to Desert Hot Springs only took a couple of hours. That left us the better part of the day to get Lucky out of the trailer storage at the KOA in Desert Hot Springs and back to an RV site. The rest of the day was pool and hot tub time before that ever fun job of laundry! We hit it early so we could be on the road in time to reach Bishop before dark.

A Fishing They Did Go!

Wednesday April 23rd, 2019

Ben headed out to work and I started getting us ready to hit the road. Amanda put together a father daughter fishing trip so they were up early and headed out with thier lunch in hand. It was a perfect day for it!

Heres JP’s report: Amanda booked us a fishing trip out of Marina Del Mar in Los Angeles. We arrived at 7:30 AM and boarded promptly There were 33 fisher people onboard that day. The weather was perfect, the ocean was smooth. We cruised out about 5 miles and started fishing in about 190 feet of water.
We caught a mixed bag of ground fish, with the majority being white fish. I loved fishing with Amanda, she was all over catching fish. We caught more fish than anyone else on board. We entered the big fish derby but it wasn’t in the cards that day for team Pomeroy. We had our catch filleted and Amanda took the fish Home as part of her Keto food, I think she may have given some fish to her co-workers. I will always cherish my time fishing with Amanda. This is our second trip together. Were going to make it a tradition.

Girl’s Day Out & Guys Go Hiking

Monday April 22nd, 2019

Amanda and I had a whole day together and we covered a lot of ground. We started with an awesome breakfast. Then, with list in hand we went from one crowded parking lot to another to shop all the busy stores. We took a Starbucks break, finished up all of our shopping and made a stop at Rounds Premium Burgers for hefty burgers and sweet potato fries.

Rounds Burgers

From JP: Ben and I drove out to Malibu Lake while the girls did their thing. What a stunning area! The rain this year has everything green and a MONSTER BLOOM of some kind of yellow flower, possibly a weed but beautiful non the less. Ben and I hiked through the park for about an hour. We talked, laughed and just generally had a good time. What a great guy he grew up to be.

We Eat and Then – We Eat!

Sunday April 21st, 2019

We went to Smorgasburg for brunch. It’s all kinds of food vendors and some craft vendors in a courtyard setting. It was hard to decide what to eat since there was so much too choose from and so many things out of the ordinary. We had an appetizer of lobster nachos from Lobsterdamus then went with the booth with the longest line and biggest portions – so it was pastrami sandwiches from Ugly Drum for lunch. So good!

Next stop was the Grove for a little more retail browsing. Some of the many stores were closed for the Holiday but there was lots to roam around and see. We didn’t ride the little cable car but it was going strong. Its a lovely complex of upper end stores. It kind of looks like a Disneyland for grown ups.

The statue is the Angel of Travelers – I liked that!

We headed to West Hollywood that evening to go to Drag Queen Bingo at Hamburger Mary’s. But alas – it was cancelled due to the holiday. They apologized by giving us free tickets for the following Tuesday so we decided to stay and have some of their famous burgers. So it was Kobe beef and a leg full of peach cocktail deliciousness for me! The restaurant and bar was cool and funky and even had a disco ball in the restroom. Its’ all about “Eat, Drink, and be Mary.” It was a fun and quirky family night out!

Movie, Some Crazy Shoes and Puppets!

Saturday April 20th, 2019

The fellas were good sports while I window shopped Abbott Kinney.  The murals are odd and fun – I guess that’s part of why Abbott Kinney is described as “the coolest block in America.”

The streets are lined with upper end and unusual shops and boutiques. None of the run of the mill stuff here!

Who doesn’t need a little love nest? Who knew a unicorn’s horn could double as a bracelet display?

We stopped into a store called Jadis a “prop and curiosity cabinet” and the owner was happy to give us all kinds of history about the store and its unusual contents. No photos allowed but DO do go to jadisprops.com its so very unique!

We decided to go to the show and  I picked Shazam (because Rotten Tomatoes gave it such a high score). I thought it was fun, but even though we had recliners for seats and more popcorn than we could eat – the guys wanted those 2 hours of their life back. I’m pretty sure I won’t get a third chance to pick a movie since last time we went with Ben I picked The Greatest Showman (which was a musical) and evidently the longest movie ever made,

After the show we roamed Century City Mall. We found this odd and interesting shoe store called United Nude. It had amazingly unique shoes! It was a little hard to get pics because of the glass cases but these pairs of art are so futuristic and interesting! No price tags to be seen and no model to demonstrate how you might walk in them either.

We all met up with Amanda in the evening to see a play called Les Miz.  The human characters of Les Miserables were trying not to lose their roles to the puppets. There were some funny and talented humans but in the end the puppets stole the show! It was right up my alley – crazy, offbeat and fun!

We’ve Had Technical Troubles!

Woah! We’ve been slow-to-go getting the blog up to date. We haven’t had good, dependable WI-FI and JP’s cell phone took the big sleep so we couldn’t get the photos that were on board. Luckily I found a way to have all the info ready for when we were back in biz so we should have you caught up in no time!welcome back

Kickin’ It With Ben

Friday April 19th, 2019

Ben had to work some today but made us a nice breakfast before he headed out. We lounged and watched TV (something we don’t have on the road much). JP and I went walking and toured Whole Foods again. I didn’t recognize much of anything brand wise but the fresh food, produce and bakery is amazing. Later Ben took us to A16 Outfitters so JP could do some window shopping. The boys had a good time!

Later we did dinner at Kura. Its a sushi place with a track around the tables so you can snag your sushi dish as it passes by on the conveyor belt. Each plate has 2 – 3 pieces of sushi on it. Once you’ve eaten a plate clean, you slip the empty plate in a slot at the end of your table. Your bill is determined by the number of plates for your table. We hit 33 plates – guess we were hungry!

On To The City of Angels

Thursday April 18th, 2019

April 18th – We were up and at ’em and had all of our gear transferred from the truck into Lucky so we could store him at the KOA while we are visiting the kids in LA. Even though we left on schedule it took a good 2 -1/2 hours to get to Ben’s place (cuz well – traffic).

LA Traffic

When we were waiting for Ben we walked up to Whole Foods. Why would anyone cook when you can have any combination of healthy awesome food  for 8.99 a pound AND if you’re feeling tense, get a massage just outside near the gorgeous outdoor flower mart. Really? When Ben got home from work we went to the beautiful Century City Mall. You can shop for your Rolex and Tesla after you’ve found that perfect outfit at Bloomingdales. I on the other hand found the Container Store and was as happy as an organizer can be! Last stop was a hearty dinner at Fatburgers.
