Art Attack!

Thursday March 15th, 2018
JP cooked breakfast for us at the Park Model so we could get an early start on our trip towards LA to visit the J Paul Getty Museum . It was amazing! I hadn’t been in forever and JP had only been to the grounds which are gorgeous.

We were lucky because it rained the night before and the views were rare and pretty impressive!

It was amazing! There was so much to take in!  It’s 15.00 to park and the museum itself is free. You take a tram (also free) to the actual Getty complex.

I could post SO many pictures but none would be close to seeing them in person and it would take days and days to give you the info on each piece and artist. I’ll just post a sampling to give you an idea of what the Getty holds.

We headed out at 10:30 AM and headed home at 3:15 which got us back around 7:30 with traffic. We were pretty beat and hungry by the time we got back to Desert Hot Springs. Luckily we found the perfect margarita and a solid Mexican dinner at the South of the Border Restaurant. It was an art-full day! South of Border DHS

They’re Here!

Wednesday March 14th, 2018
Anne and Mike our friends from Bandon (and Clovis this time of year) came in today.Richies March 2018

They’re staying in a park model here in our KOA.

We spent some time catching up over cocktails and snacks and headed out to see Black Panther at the Mary Pickford Theater.

We tried out the “D Box” seats – so fun! They’re like lounge chairs (feet up) and all super comfy. The lounge chairs have motion that matches what’s happening in the movie, so an earthquake you see on screen you’d feel as well! Pretty cool!
We had a heart healthy dinner at McDonald’s and planned our day for tomorrow.

A Pause to Catch Up

Monday March 11th and Tuesday March 12th, 2018
JP seems to be having fun learning more about pickle ball in the mornings and what’s better than following that with a sauna? Good way to start the day!

We had a to-do list and decided to get busy with it. JP somehow got lucky and found a dermatologist that had a work in appointment for him and he also squeezed In an optometrist appointment and ordered new glasses. So two big things out of the way. We shopped for more odds and ends for Lucky and JP inventoried his fishing equipment for April’s trip back to Alamo Lake next month. It felt good to knock some chores off our list.

A Shopping We Did Go!

Sunday March 11th, 2018
Pat and Peter took us to the Street Fair COD (College of the Desert) where they have a street fair with everything from art to produce.

We picked up a few things on our shopping list and then headed out to a huge consignment store called Victoria’s Attic. OH MY! So much cool gently used contemporary modern stuff I was beside myself!

Later we noodled in the pool and warmed up in the hot tub.
We finished the day at Peter and Pat’s with Happy Hour and a great dinner before we called it a day!

Cabot’s Museum Extraordinaire!

Saturday March 10th, 2018

Patsy and Peter came out our way today, our destination was the Cabot’s Pueblo Museum. It was fascinating! The tour was an hour long and the story of this man’s life is phenomenal.  His full name is Cabot Yerxa and its worth the time to look him up online. A guide takes your little group on the hour long tour and covers Cabot’s life and accomplishments while you move from space to space. There’s an authentic gift gallery and the grounds around the museum are lovely.

Cabot was an adventurer, an artist, and a humanitarian according to the brochure. He was also a “community visionary, leader, a man of tolerance, kindness and a lover of people and the desert.” He was THE MAN when it came to recycling and repurposing, which is how he built his 35 room, 5,000 sq ft pueblo.

And  . . . Cabot discovered the mineral hot springs of Desert Hot Springs. The springs feed the 3 hot tubs in our KOA park. Each with their own temperature. 104, 99, and 98 degrees.

If cats have nine lives,  this man had at dozens of lives and though they weren’t simple or by any means easy –  it seems he lived them all to the max! What he accomplished during his extraordinary life (1883 – 1965) is so impressive!

At one point he decided that art was calling to him so he attended the Students Art League in LA (an incubator of modernist artists), and the Académie Julian in Paris. An interesting fork in the road for his life.

In an interim period after Cabot’s death the pueblo was inhabited by a hippie commune. I’m thinking the ROCK was probably created at that point. Someone had a good sense of humor!

Ancient Weather Rock
When Rock is wet it’s raining
When rock is white it’s snowing
When rock is hard to see it’s foggy
When rock is moving it’s windy or there’s an earthquake
Rock is NEVER WRONG

Viva Cabot Yerxa! A man I never knew about and will never forget!

Someone Has To Do It!

March 9th, 2018

The truck got a nice sized rock chip in the windshield that had to be attended to so  that was the first order of the day. We had a long list of things we wanted to get taken care back at Lucky too. We are still putting the finishing touches on the inside and rearranging things to free up some more space.

We headed to Patsy and Peters in the late afternoon just in time for Happy Hour and snacks. Later we had my Birthday dinner – which was awesome! Who doesn’t love ribs? Just when you think you cant eat another bite . . . there’s tuxedo cake for dessert! There’s an addiction waiting to happen in that little goodie!

Tuxedo cake

We spent the rest of the evening playing Mexican Train (a dice game) that was fun and easy (and didn’t require any math)!

Hippo Birdie To Me!

March 8th, 2018

Since It was my Birthday I was queen for the day. We started with a trip to downtown Palm Springs for breakfast at the Broken Yolk. They were busy and understaffed so the waiter gave us a 2 for 1 card to come back. I’m sure we will – they have mimosa flights!  We didn’t have the Bloody Mary but it looks like a meal!

After breakfast, we stopped at a Rockys Pawn Shop that wasn’t like any we’d seen before.

Signed guitars, memorabilia, and quality jewelry, the diamonds had even been graded and certified. It was odd not to see tools and guns. Not that kinda pawn shop! The photos just wouldn’t work well because of the reflections but you’ll get the idea.

Around the corner was REVIVALS and what a cool store that was! It’s like a retail store with thrift store prices.Revivals

I loved these gently used white bar stools and they were only 50.00 each. A steal!

There’s also a part of the store has brand new retro furniture that I loved! You can look up Revival Store on Facebook to see more cool stuff!

My head was swimming with decorating ideas but luckily I got distracted by by maragaritas at Peter and Patsy’s followed by pool time.

At dusk we headed downtown to the Villagefest. The Marilyn below was a mural downtown. Villagefest Mural

The street is blocked off for the artist’s and vendor’s. Their stalls line the street under well lit canopies and they have a healthy crowd of shoppers. There was all kinds of interesting original art, jewelry and food. We popped into a few galleries too. These were my favorites from one of the galleries.

JP loved this guys crazy fish art. Too large for Lucky and a wee bit hard for me to fit into any decor that I had in mind. LOL!

After a late dinner at Ruby’s (a cooler version of Johnny Rockets) we made our way through the end of the fair and called it a night. It was a great date night and perfect Birthday!

A Little Getaway

March 7th, 2018
We went hunting for a few things we still need for the new trailer and found Target and Costco and were able to check some things off our lists. Its nice being able to use the KOA as a mailing address so we can order from Amazon too. We found 2 Goodwill Stores that we’re pretty amazing (super clean and well organized- no “junk” at all!) and picked up some movies and odds and ends.

My BD is tomorrow so we booked the night at the Palm Springs Oasis Resort (one of our VI Time Share Resorts) which was lovely and SO spacious compared to Lucky! Our place was a 2 bedroom condo with a den. We had the pool and hot tub across the way all to ourselves. It was a perfect little getaway.

This Is The Life!

Tuesday March 6, 2018

JP went for a pickle ball lesson this morning. Pickle ball is everywhere and from what JP read about it, 2 million folks love it! That # is double from last years amount of players! He had fun and wants to get a racket and see if he can develop some skills!pickleball
We spent the day with Patsy , Peter and their dog Derby who is sweet as can be.Patsy Peter Derby Sunshine, margaritas  and appy’s – what else could you ask for? Then off the the pool with our new bobbling noodles to visit and float until hot tub o’clock.

Patsy PeterPatsy cooked up a great dinner for us and we tossed around some ideas for plans later in the week. It couldn’t have been a better day!

Relaxin’

Monday, March 5th, 2018
We spent the morning trying to shore up business we weren’t able to do without internet when we were at Alamo Lake, then off to our cousins Peter and Patsy’s for a little lunch at Mexican place nearby.

Patsy and Peter 2018
After lunch we relaxed and visited until Happy Hour with Patsy and Peter’s friends, Brenda and Martin who here to watch for a big tennis event. They’re camped in the RV park in Cathedral City (where we stayed last time we were here) next door to Patsy and Peters place.  We had cocktails and appetizers –  and then there was cheesecake to top the night off ! We headed back to our campsite tired, fat and happy. Cheesecake
