Lazy Days . . .

This is the view I’ve been enjoying from the lounge chair at the pool every day. Oh I’m gonna miss it!
I’m thinkin’ the hot weather, pool and Laughlin made Bullhead City the best place we could have picked for our only 2 week stay in Lucky. It made desert living fun!
We picked up JP’s brother Harry and then scooped up sister Penny and fiance Dan to head to Allure Chapel for their wedding. It was really quite lovely and the preacher made it really special. Everything went smoothly and after photos we headed to the hotel to change clothes and head off to Benihana for lunch and wedding cake.
From there we headed to Hoover Dam for some sightseeing. Always amazing!
We spent a couple hours at the dam and then headed to Old Town Vegas – Fremont Street. Always interesting, always outrageous, always loud and way over the top.
We had a beer, gambled a tiny bit and wondered around.
I found some cool street art in our Freemont travels!
We came across the Heart Attack Grill where you eat your food dressed in a hospital gowns and the burgers have names like double bypass and flatline and such. There is a scale out front and you eat free if you weigh in at 350 pounds. Waitresses are “nurses” orders are “prescriptions” and customers are “patients”. Clever (and evil) in every way. Not for us – but the place was packed!
We dropped the wedding couple of for an evening on their own before they headed back to Blaine and grabbed a bite with Harry before dropping him at the airport heading home to San Diego.
We spent the night on a promo at the SLS Casino and Resort and we loved it! Unusual and cool decor – its mostly black, white, silver, baby pink, and big mirrors. We cant wait to go back when we have more time and scope out the pools!
Certainly a day to remember!
Even the windy days here are lovely! We wrapped up a few more chores for our trip up to Vegas tomorrow.
Lucky me! I picked the perfect Nail Salon and had an amazing pedicure with a hot rock leg massage which was an unexpected treat!
The rest of the day was pool time and packing for our Vegas trip bright and early in the AM. We’re driving up for my sis-n-law Penny’s wedding. It’ll be a fun trip! Staying over 1 night at the SLS (no one knows what the initials stand for – its a fairly new Casino Hotel at the end of the strip) then headed back to Lucky on Friday.
Today we took a little road trip to Kingman AZ so we could catch some of Route 66. We window shopped in the antique stores and browsed the cool “re-purposed” stores where they use old items and make them cool and trendy and worse yet? It makes me want to take that up as my next hobby!
We had lunch at D’s Diner with a 50’s flavor and just missed getting to see the Route 66 Museum (only minutes too late). Evidently the town is partial to the turquoise and pink that the diner was sporting. Its a theme thing?
We did come across a cool sculpture downtown. I loved the Bunny!
We finished the day with a drive a ways up Route 66 and drove through Hualapai State Park where you can rent stone cabins built in the 1930’s or camp. Late night swim and the day was a wrap!
We stuck around the RV park and did some work on Lucky. He needed some sprucing up from previous life in Oregon so we made hay while the sun was shining! He looks much happier after some sanding and painting on his metal parts. Every day still includes clear skies, warm weather and pool/hot tub time so there’s nothing to complain about.
We headed to Laughlin in time for me to get a couple pix of some cool street art.
The Riverside kindly gave us 2 for 1 coupons for the buffet which was not bad but not as good as Three Rivers by a longshot. We headed to Harrah’s at the very end of the strip then onto a rather odd casino called the Laughlin River Lodge. The Players Club there only gives free play based on points. The casino has several areas with slots but one was like being at your Auntie’s house with slot machines in it. Checkered table clothes on little tables throughout the slot area and food service with “homey” décor. Another area was decorated like a red light district with scantily clad mannequins around the ceiling and girlie stuff on the walls. In the center of all this were ticket games like arcades have for kids. Weird. . . .we didn’t stay long. Both JP and I thought there was an odd vibe there.
Next we hit the Nugget. It’s a nice place and was hoppin’ (in a good way). The band in the lounge was great and the dance floor was full. I got a little lucky before we called it a night. It was a fun date!
We waited until dusk and headed to Laughlin (yes again – there are still casinos that haven’t bestowed freebies on us! We did the Players Club at the Aquarius and got our free play and took a tour. Its really a nice modern casino and according to the billboards they have tons of WINNERS! But alas we weren’t one of them.
The Regence was the next stop. It’s a family owned place with no hotel, hidden between larger casino hotels. If you didn’t read about it you would never see it. You have enter through the gift shop on the Riverwalk that connects the casinos on the waterfront. Its tiny but is said to have good food and cheap drinks. We did a walk through but didn’t stay. It was a curious place with a cow somehow being a key part of the décor?
Then on to the Pioneer. Another older casino hotel with a western theme. There are funky cowboy things as décor. We used our free play and did a little looking around. No big wins so home to Lucky.
Ah the life of Riley! We have a new schedule here – wake up – have breakfast- go to the pool. I love it! We had some running around to do and after a snack and a rest we headed back to Laughlin for Happy Hour at Bubba Gumps.
Next stop the Riverside Hotel and Casino where we earned our free play and coupons. Its an older place but Don Laughlin (who I’m guessing is the namesake of Laughlin) has a car collection there. I’m not a car gal but if I were there were a few I’d be happy to see in my garage! There were vintage slot machines and car memorabilia as well.

My fav was a handwritten letter to Henry Ford thanking him for the great automobile he had made and explaining how dependable it had been. The letter was signed by Clyde Barrow of Bonnie and Clyde. I saw it but evidently there is some dispute as to whether its authentic but is an interesting thought. Clyde had a soft spot for the Model B in the 1930s. Look I found a copy!
Today we needed to address the yellow center line paint that has been speckled on our truck. Its been there for awhile and just had to go. While JP spent an hour at the detail shop I did some window shopping at some familiar stores (Kohls, Target, Ross) and then back to the pool to relax.
Late we made a trip over to the Avi Casino and Resort. Its not in Laughlin but outside of town a ways and is an Tribal Casino. It has everything you would need including its own white sand beach. Baskins and Robbins and we called it a night.
We were out and about here in Bullhead. The city is young (established 1984) and was a mining area on the Colorado River which is evidently – endless! It’s a nice little city of sprawled across the desert with lots of cottonwood trees.
Later in the day we headed to Katherine’s Landing on Lake Mead. It’s a full-blown marina with lots of boats for rent and sale. Houseboats, fishing boats, and JP’s new favorite the party boats. At the docks edge near the restaurant live a school of giant carp that will follow you hoping for a feeding. Kinda scary the way the hold their mouths open waiting for a treat! I don’t believe fish are supposed to do that!
Laughlin is only about 10 minutes away so we made a stop there. We checked out the Colorado Belle that houses its casino in what looks like a giant paddle wheel boat. It has all kinds of old posters and crystal chandeliers. We had to go to the Edgewater next door as well since the free play at the Belle could also be used at the Edgewater. No win but no loss – we left happy!
