Rollin’ On – Fresno and Bakersfield CA

Orange Grove RV Park, Bakersfield CA
We made it down 99 S rather than the intended route through Reno because of the threat of snow. We met up with friends Mike and Ann at a local Starbucks, had a nice visit and headed to Bakersfield.

Orange Grove RV was lovely! And, guess what? Totally an RV Park in an Orange Grove. Nice and clean and wide open. Jerry made friends with a lady named Rose who is a full time resident and who REALLY wanted Jerry to pick the oranges from her trees (I’m thinking less for her to clean up when they have all ripened). So we have a serious amount of oranges to eat now!

Early to bed for  AM trek to our first destination  Lake Havasu AZ.

Traffic OH MY! Were not in Bandon anymore . . .

Funky Find: Crickets Country Kitchen

Crazy, eclectic, breakfast diner, totally over the top, but the decor in each area of the restaurant seems to follow a loose theme (think birds, clowns, frogs, circus) overhead train and vintage (OK scary!) mannequins. Open for 30 years – quite possible the elderly waitress has been there from day 1? Great breakfast, worth waiting for. All the gravy you can stand! “Smothered” seems to be their favorite word! The best part was that it was a happy place, with lots of kind and loving quotes on the wall (and a few funny ones as well). Photos would have been easier if it hadn’t been packed!

On the road in the AM – 99 South to Bakersfield.

Here we go!

img_2100-jpgWe are off and running! We headed down 101 in the pouring rain and got settled in at the Ukiah Elks for one night.

Jerry and I decided on a few rules for our adventure:

  1. Fill up when the gas tank hits half empty.
  2. Try to be at our destination well before dark.
  3. No junk food as road food.

Day One – Broke all the rules.

Apparently we are Road Rebels .

Rules – meant to be broken!
